The Fruitmarket Gallery has been home to some of the most important contemporary art and cultural thinking for over 40 years, but in recent years our building had started to fall short of our programming ambitions and was in desperate need of some love. From there OPEN OUT, a transformational redevelopment project seizing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand into our neighbouring building, was born. Today, the Fruitmarket is getting ready to fully OPEN OUT - with more space and more programmes for more people – in summer 2020.
We wouldn’t be at this point without our supporters, whose incredible generosity has already helped us to secure over 90% of our £3.8million target. To help us close in on that target, we have launched our unique Fruitmarket Gift Registry where anyone who has taken something away from their own experience of the Fruitmarket can donate to our OPEN OUT campaign by selecting a virtual gift they’d like to give back in return – whether a pair of coat hooks for our brand new learning studios, a shelf for displaying hand-picked titles in our ever popular Bookshop, redesigned non-gendered and accessible toilets, or even a newly commissioned public artwork created in and for our revived building.
By buying a 'gift' - or a selection of 'gifts' - from the Fruitmarket Gift Registry you will be making a donation towards our OPEN OUT campaign and playing your part in helping to build a new future for the Fruitmarket.
Everyone who buys a gift from the Fruitmarket Gift Registry will be invited to celebrate with us when we re-open the Fruitmarket in summer 2020, and all support will be recognised on a dedicated page on our website and in a special Gift Registry leaflet.
